Why Hedrin?

Three reasons to choose Hedrin – it’s effective, with a good safety profile and a physical mode of action to which lice cannot develop resistance.

Effective
Hedrin solution is specifically formulated to kill head lice. The non-chemical, physical mode of action means that lice cannot become resistant to treatment. Hedrin formulation has been clinically proven and is supported by some of the largest clinical studies ever conducted on head lice.

Safety
Hedrin formulation is colourless with no unpleasant smells and does not contain traditional pesticides. It is suitable for use on children as young as six months and does not contain any solvents which could be problematic to people with asthma. The ingredients used in Hedrin solution have all been used in cosmetic formulations and have been shown to be well tolerated.

No resistance
In some parts of the world, head lice have become resistant to certain chemically acting treatments - a problem which may result in infestations in schools and communities taking longer to eradicate. However, because Hedrin formulation works in a purely physical way, resistance is not a factor and efficacy is not diminished even in lice resistant to other treatments. When an infestation occurs, there is usually no need to try different treatments because Hedrin products can be used again and again.

How Hedrin works?

Hedrin’s efficacy is a result of its active ingredient, Dimeticone.

The formulation is patented and has been shown to be effective at killing head lice in clinical trials and even work on lice that have developed a resistance to traditional pesticide treatments.

Head lice have a unique strategy of water management in that they do not produce urine. Instead they eliminate excess water via tiny passages in their exoskeleton called spiracles. The active ingredient Dimeticone, a silicone oil, disrupts this process of water management by coating the louse, causing them to become permanently immobile, and blocking the spiracles preventing them from getting rid of excess water. As a result, any lice that have recently fed suffer from death by gut rupture and, the ones that haven’t, die of starvation.
